A non-ablative resurfacing technique of IPL treatment
Liver spots, sun spots, hot spots, there's a lot of different names for those ugly, brown spots that start to show up on your hands, arms, neck and even your face. Foundation makeup will cover up some of those unpleasant reminders of aging, but wouldn't it be nice if there was a fix that you didn't have to put on every day and gave a more natural look. IPL therapy is designed to do just that. Bestview Laser is professional IPL machine manufacturer, we have IPL hair removal machine for sale.
Intense Pulsed Light IPL therapy is a skin rejuvenation procedure. That means it uses your body's ability to produce fresh collagen to improve your skin's tone, color and firmness and give you a natural, radiant appearance. IPL reduces redness, broken capillaries and brown spots while also stimulating collagen production. IPL is not an invasive technique so there's no injections or needles involved. Instead, a device is used to send wavelengths of high-intensity light under the skin where melanin (the place that holds your red or brown spot) and capillaries are located. The light breaks the melanin into tiny pieces that are absorbed by your body.
In this way redness and aging discoloration are reduced and best of all your body response is to produce fresh, new collagen. That results in plumper skin and the reduction of fine lines and pores. You will see improvement with each treatment. The more brown spots, sun damage or redness you have, the more likely you are to need a series of treatments.
What Are IPL Photofacial Treatments?
Have you started noticing small brown spots on your skin? If so, you're not alone. Many patients who have spent extended time in the sun are vulnerable to experiencing accelerated signs of premature aging on their face, hands and decollate. These sun spots are a form of skin damage, and they represent one of the most common skin concerns. Fortunately, there's a simple solution to improve your skin tone and restore a more youthful-looking complexion, a IPL photofacial machine treatment.
IPL treatment is a simple, non-surgical way to effectively target pigment under the skin's surface to reduce the appearance of discoloration and premature aging. There is minimal discomfort and typically only some redness for about a day afterward. With IPL photofacials, you can achieve noticeably brighter, clearer, and more youthful-looking skin. Each photorejuvenation treatment also works on vascular marks, such as spider veins and capillaries. All it takes is a few quick treatments, each of which lasts about 15 to 20 minutes and fits easily into your busy schedule or even on a lunch break.
IPL Treatments: What to Expect
Ready to give IPL a try? Once you've found a qualified provider for IPL, here are a few steps for how you can prepare before the procedure, what to expect during the procedure itself and what to know about the recovery process.
Preparing for IPL:
Before an IPL procedure, be sure to meet with a qualified provider to discuss your desired results and ensure that IPL is a good choice for your concerns. Patients will usually be asked to avoid chemical peels, excessive sun exposure, tanning beds or waxing for two weeks before IPL. Some service providers may also recommend avoiding aspirin or other anti-inflammatory medications for two weeks prior which can lead to excess bleeding during the procedure.
Procedure:
Before an IPL procedure, you may be offered a local anesthetic or numbing cream. During the procedure itself, the provider will use a handheld device to administer the IPL treatment to the desired area. Patients may feel a snapping or pinching sensation during the treatment.
Recovery from IPL:
Don't expect to see immediate results after an IPL treatment. After the procedure, the skin may have a slight tingling sensation like a sunburn, mild swelling and redness for up to eight hours afterward. Your IPL provider may advise you to avoid makeup and harsh skincare products for a few days and will likely recommend a moisturizer or ointment to use while the skin heals.
Is IPL right for me?
Intense pulsed light treatments are ideal for individuals with light to medium complexions looking to reduce skin discoloration, improve skin tone, diminish the effects of sun damage, and treat vascular lesions (broken blood vessels) or capillary inflammation (spider veins). Because we have multiple wavelengths available during an IPL treatment, it can be adjusted for a spectrum of skin tones. However, lighter skin that is relatively elastic is likely to show the greatest improvement.
Key Benefits and Typical Results
Besides being able to treat a wide variety of skin discolorations, and reduce the appearance of spider veins, other significant benefits include fast treatment times (45 to 90 minutes, depending upon the size of the treatment area), minimal recovery time and long-lasting results. Age spots and freckles typically do not come back in the treated area.
How do prepare for IPL treatment?
Your skin must not be tan. It is imperative to always use a high SPF sunblock on any areas being treated in the weeks prior to the treatment. (It is always preferable to wear sunscreen when outdoors but it is especially important before IPL sessions.) Avoid non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications (ibuprofen, naproxen, etc) and other blood thinners such as aspirin and 24 hours before your appointment. Retinol-based medications (or products containing tretinoin) should also be discontinued one week prior to your appointment. Please tell your doctor if you are taking any prescription blood thinners and check with your doctor to confirm you can stop taking them a few days before the procedure. Also avoid products with ingredients which can irritate your face, such as benzoyl peroxide, glycolic/salicylic acids, astringents and chemical peels for at least two weeks.
What happens during IPL treatment?
We will apply a topical numbing agent twenty to thirty minutes prior to reduce the sensitivity of the area being treated. Discomfort varies from patient to patient, and is also dependent upon the area being treated. The sensation of the IPL bursts is often compared to the snapping of a rubber band on the skin. Please let your practitioner know if you are concerned about pain beforehand, and also as the treatment is in progress. Practitioner want to make you as comfortable as possible. The treatment time itself for the face and neck is usually no more than ten to fifteen minutes.
Post-treatment or downtime
Immediately after the treatment you may notice some minor redness and swelling, similar to that of a sunburn. Ice packs or a cool washcloth can be used as needed. If treating freckles and other dark spots, you may experience dryness and flaking of the treated area. Some of the spots may appear darker, but they should slough off within a few days. You can apply makeup immediately after an IPL treatment if desired. Avoid heavy exertion and activities which may cause flushing of the skin for three days after treatment. Abstain from harsh topical products such as retinols and glycolic acid products for at least one week as your skin will be more sensitive while the healing process continues. As before the treatment, avoid direct sunlight on the treated area and use a broad spectrum UVA/UVB high SPF for four to six weeks after your treatment.
How long until you see results?
It will take four to six weeks to see the full results from the first treatment, however you should see dark spots fade and slough off within the first week. If you complete a series of treatments about one month apart, the maximal results will be visible in two to three months after the last treatment.
How long will results last?
With proper skin care and sun protection following photofacial treatments, results can last for years. But remember that sun exposure induces more brown spots and other pigmented lesions. Since it is impossible to avoid all sun exposure, even with the best skin care regimen and protection, new spots and blemishes may emerge over time. Therefore it is critical that a good skin care regimen be followed faithfully and year around.
Discoloration and skin damage does not only occur during the summer months. Damage can occur at any time when high-spectrum UV radiation pierces overcast weather, especially at the beach and in the mountains. Always wear high SPF protection when in the high country and on the ski slopes. To protect your results, and your financial investment, you should protect your skin with medical grade skin care products. Even following best practices, some of our patients find that they may need an IPL maintenance treatment about once a year.
What's the science?
IPL photorejuvenation works on the same principle as lasers in that light energy is absorbed by pigment cells in the skin (chromophores). The light energy is converted to heat, which causes damage to the specifically target area. However IPL systems are different than lasers in that they deliver many color wavelengths in each pulse of light instead of just one wavelength. IPL photofacial system uses filters to refine the energy output for the treatment of different types of skin blemishes and conditions. This enhances without using excessive energy and enables the targeting of specific skin components we are addressing.
IPL therapy is considered a non-ablative resurfacing technique, which means that it targets the lower layers of skin (the dermis) without affecting the top layers of skin (the epidermis). The results are not as dramatic as ablative resurfacing (using powerful lasers) where both the dermis and epidermis are injured to produce a much more noticeable overall effect. One big advantage of IPL therapy is its minimal medical downtime, a patient can often have the procedure done during a lunch break and can return to work immediately afterwards.
